Adopt a Sasquatch

Our Story

I’ll never forget the day my 5 year old son Trey had his first chemotherapy treatment. As a parent, that’s something you hope you never see your child go through. Trey has a genetic disease called neurofibromatosis. With neurofibromatosis (NF), people are missing the gene that tells nerve cells when to stop multiplying.  Because of this, they develop tumors called Neuromas.  Common areas for theses tumors to form are in the brain, on the spinal cord, and they can develop outside the body on the skin, sometimes leading to disfigurement.

Our son Trey had a tumor on his right optic nerve (the nerve that transmits the information an eye sees back to the brain). He was starting to lose his eyesight in the right eye. Trey underwent 15 months of weekly chemotherapy treatments while in kindergarten and first grade. Needless to say, it was a long 15 months.

My wife Kari Lynn and I have always wanted to do something for other patients with NF.  Our Dischinger & Sessions Orthodontic Team came up with the idea of partnering with our patients to provide orthodontic treatment to kids that have undergone chemotherapy treatment due to NF at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

What is the Adopt-A-Sasquatch Program?

The Adopt-A-Sasquatch Program was created to provide free orthodontic treatment to children with neurofibromatosis (NF). The journey for treatment for NF becomes quite costly and orthodontic treatment is out of reach financially for these families.

This program allows orthodontic treatment to be possible.

How You Can Help

Dischinger & Sessions Orthodontic Team accepts donations to supplement the cost of orthodontic treatment for children who have gone through treatment of neurofibromatosis (NF) in our community. 100% of the donations are used to provide the highest quality of orthodontic care to the recipients. We have partnered with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital which will help provide us with recipient. These families do not come to us seeking treatment but rather are handpicked and offered treatment at no cost.

Donations of any size are accepted and as a thank you for those who donate $30 or more you will get to adopt a stuffed Sasquatch.

If you would like to donate your Sasquatch to a Doernbecher patient, we will have that option available as well.

Come by the office to see how you can help give a Sasquatch a home and help provide orthodontic treatment for a patient with NF.
